24 Hours of Le Mans – Alpine to compete in Hypercar starting in 2024

Alpine is continuing its legacy in endurance racing by entering the Hypercar class in 2024. The French marque has opted to comply with LMDh regulations and will rely on the expertise of Signatech and synergy with Alpine F1 Team.

Forty-three years after winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and a few weeks after reaching the third step on its overall podium, Alpine has now confirmed the future of its endurance racing program. The French marque intends to participate in the Hypercar class under the LMDh regulations from 2024 to 2027.

Alpine will field two cars with ORECA chassis and Alpine engines. The similarities between endurance racing and Formula 1 will serve as a major advantage in this new program. In addition to the engine, the body will be customized by Enstone’s aerodynamic know-how. This engine, chassis and bodywork package will benefit from Signatech and Alpine F1 Team's technical experience and give the constructor what it needs to achieve the level of performance to fight for podium finishes.

Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile de l’Ouest: "Another great and prestigious constructor has joined the highest level of endurance racing, in the new top Hypercar class. For a year now, announcements continue to be made and Alpine's participation is excellent news for our discipline. The Hypercar class is certainly a success and we are extremely happy to welcome such a top notch field."

Laurent Rossi, President of Alpine Racing: "Alpine's endurance program underscores the marque's dedication and ambition in motorsport. By competing simultaneously in Formula 1 and endurance, Alpine will be one of the few constructors to participate in the two leading disciplines in auto racing. We intend to make the most of Formula 1 and endurance through technical and technological synergies to gain the advantage over our prestigious opponents."

Philippe Sinault, team manager of Alpine Elf Matmut: "Signatech is immensely proud to have been chosen by Alpine for its involvement in LMDh. This represents the culmination of a shared project launched eight years ago. We feel more ambitious than ever and are happy to take our collaboration to the next level. After 32 years in auto racing, I can't wait to challenge the most reputable manufacturers on the planet, with Alpine, a marque that conveys passion and that lives only for victory."

Alpine took the start 11 times in the 24 Hours of Le Mans between 1963 and 1978. Though an outsider in the discipline at the time, the marque won the Energy Index in 1964, 1966 and 1968, and the Performance Index in 1968 and 1969. Alpine also secured 10 class wins and one overall in 1978 with the Alpine A442B driven by Jean-Pierre Jaussaud and Didier Pironi.

The French marque and partner Signatech will concentrate on the pursuit of their endurance racing program between now and 2024. Alpine will continue to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship in preparation for its arrival in LMDh in 2024.
