24 Hours of Le Mans – Panis-Barthez Compétition (LMP2)

This year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans sees a record number of entrants on the grid. We take a look at the 43 teams behind the 62 cars in the field. Here we give you the lowdown on LMP2 team Panis-Barthez Compétition.

Team: Panis Barthez Compétition

Class: LMP2

Car and Drivers:

#23 Ligier JS P217-Gibson

  • René Binder
  • Julien Canal
  • Will Stevens

Team Achievements:

Panis Barthez Compétition is a young team formed in 2016 by two star athletes: former F1 driver Olivier Panis (four participations in the 24 Hours of Le Mans) and 1998 world football champion Fabien Barthez. The outfit took its first start in the race in 2016 and has since never missed an edition.

Team Goals at the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans:

Though the team has never won, it can always be counted on to place. A competitor in the European Le Mans Series and more recently in the Asian Le Mans Series, the outfit will rely on the stability and experience of Le Mans native Julien Canal, class winner three times for the first three of his 10 appearances in the 24 Hours.
