Inter Europol Competition looking to make an impression in the FIA WEC

Polish team Inter Europol Competition, competing this year in the FIA World Endurance Championship with an ORECA 07 LMP2, has just announced its drivers.

After earning the LMP3 title in the 2018-2019 Asian Le Mans Series season and finishing 12th in the teams classification in the 2020 European Le Mans Series, Inter Europol Competition is set to participate in the FIA WEC this year in the LMP2 class.

The Polish team's #34 ORECA 07 LMP2 will be shared by Alex Brundle, Renger van der Zande and Kuba Smiechowski for the season, with the exception of the 1000 Miles of Sebring (first round of six of Season 9 scheduled for 19 March) where Helio Castroneves will join forces with Brundle and Smiechowski. Castroneves is quite a recruit given that he has won the Indianapolis 500 an astounding three times (2001, 2002 and 2009).

Inter Europol Competition's team manager Sascha Fassbender: "I am proud of our team for being the first Polish team to compete in the World Endurance Championship. Special thanks to our team sponsor Inter Europol for making this possible. As our driver line-up shows, we are not competing just to be there. No, we want to make an impression or two and leave our mark in the WEC. With Kuba, who is now contesting his third season in LMP2, and Renger and Alex, who can already look back on race victories in LMP2/DPI, we have put together a strong team. The whole team is highly motivated and cannot wait to enter the WEC stage in March.”

Inter Europol Competition was formed in 2010 and has taken the start in the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice, finishing 16th in LMP2 in 2019 then 17th in 2020, with a Ligier JS P217-Gibson.
