<h2>1 Hour Update: Toyota lead the 94th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.</h2>

<p>Following a surprise pit stop on lap eight, the five-time event winners went bold with their opening stint strategy, pitting both the #8&nbsp;and then the #7&nbsp;Toyota GR010 Hybrids to give themselves clear air and a shot at victory. S&eacute;bastien Buemi, in the #8 car, leads the race, with pole-sitter Ren&eacute; Rast in the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 within five seconds as we end the opening hour.</p>

<p>Tour de France legend Sir Mark Cavendish had the honour of waving the French tricolour at the start of the most eagerly anticipated race in the modern era, with 62 cars and 62 dreams of victory lining up for the 94th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.</p>

<p>The race of all races. The great expedition, as 186 drivers &ndash; 40 of them rookies taking to the race for the first time &ndash; embark on this challenge. The build-up was palpable: a spine-tingling rendition of La Marseillaise, a flypast from fast jets, and a sell-out, passionate crowd willing the competitors on into the adventure. The stage was set. Twice around the clock we go into the most open race in recent memory.</p>

<p>Top-flight Hypercars from major manufacturers such as Ferrari, Toyota, BMW, Alpine, Peugeot, Cadillac, Aston Martin and Genesis, alongside the tightly contested LMP2 prototype category and the LMGT3 class for the latest supercars, ensured the Circuit de la Sarthe was alive once more. At 16:00 local time, the challenge began.</p>

<h2>Hypercar</h2>

<p>Starting from pole position, the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 didn&#39;t make the greatest of getaways, with the #12 Hertz Team JOTA Cadillac pouncing into the first corner.</p>

<p>The opening lap was as frenetic as it gets at Le Mans, with the field jostling for position and the two Ferrari AF Corse cars running side by side through the opening tour.</p>

<p>Down the Mulsanne Straight, the #15 BMW, with Ren&eacute; Rast behind the wheel, tucked the Bavarian machine into the slipstream of the leading Cadillac and used it to pass into the second chicane. Unleashed, the BMW looked fast and racy, edging away from the gold machine over the opening handful of laps with clean air and no traffic to contend with.</p>

<p>Team-mate Kevin Magnussen, in the sister car, made a strong start to haul his BMW M Hybrid V8 into third, while Earl Bamber, in the #38 Cadillac that had started tenth, was on the move up to sixth in the opening phase.</p>

<p>By lap six, the Hypercars had caught the back of the LMGT3 field, making the fight through traffic &ndash; and the battle for class positions &ndash; that little bit trickier.</p>

<p>Ferdinand Habsburg, who had been muscled out of position at the start, produced a brave move around the outside of Magnussen&#39;s BMW into Indianapolis Corner. Filipe Albuquerque was next to follow through, with the fast-starting Earl Bamber in hot pursuit. Running on hard tyres, the Kiwi looked set to double-stint the rubber, confident in the pace of the Cadillac chassis beneath him.</p>

<p>Shock resonated around Le Mans as the&nbsp;S&eacute;bastien Buemi&nbsp;#8&nbsp;Toyota pitted after only eight laps, dropping to the back of the Hypercar field. A lap later, Mike Conway brought the #7&nbsp;into the pits.</p>

<p>Toyota appeared to have a surprise up its sleeve.</p>

<p>Bringing both cars in early and then instructing their drivers to push put the Japanese manufacturer into the lead by the end of the first hour. We&#39;ll have to watch this strategy develop over the next few hours. Can they make it stick? Toyota fans will certainly be hoping so.</p>

<h2>LMP2</h2>

<p>The man who lit up Hyperpole in the LMP2 battle, Esteban Masson in the #29 Forestier Racing by Panis ORECA, slipped back into the pack at the start of the race amid a fast train of prototype cars.</p>

<p>The #28 IDEC Sport ORECA made the best start, with the #30 Duqueine Team ORECA moving into second.</p>

<p>After the first round of pit stops, the #28 still leads, but the #29 &ndash; with Masson on a mission &ndash; has climbed back into second place.</p>

<h2>LMGT3</h2>

<p>Heart of Racing&#39;s #27 Aston Martin Vantage led the early charge in LMGT3, bolting away at the start of the race and building an advantage of almost a second per lap over the opening ten laps.</p>

<p>The two Akkodis ASP Lexus entries ran in flying formation as they cycled into second and third in the GT class, with the #78 taking the lead by leapfrogging the #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin during the first round of pit stops.</p>

<p>Keep an eye on the #32 Team WRT BMW as well; they are firmly in the mix for victory in this class.</p>

In front of packed pit straight grandstands, this year&#39;s&nbsp;competitors set off for&nbsp;24 hours of pedal to the metal racing: 18&nbsp;Hypercars, 19&nbsp;LMP2s&nbsp;and 25&nbsp;LMGT3s are now on the track, all sharing the same goal of&nbsp;crossing the finish line at 16:00 on Sunday.</p>

<p>Just a few minutes&nbsp;ago, the cars took their places on the grid cheered on by thrilled&nbsp;spectators, guests&nbsp;and countless&nbsp;VIPs gathered at the heart of the circuit. The 24 Hours of Le Mans trophy was presented just prior to&nbsp;this year&#39;s Grand Marshal Sarah Bovy&nbsp;leading&nbsp;the field on its final formation lap.</p>

<p>The&nbsp;start ceremony capped off race&nbsp;week during which Le Mans fully reclaimed its status as the world capital of motor racing. From Scrutineering in the city centre&nbsp;to the first free practices, public enthusiasm steadily ramped up, building up to this moment everyone had been waiting for.</p>

<p>The 24 Hours of Le Mans also remains focused on future&nbsp;challenges. Following the announcements regarding the integration of hydrogen into the 2030 Hypercar category (made the previous day at the ACO press conference), a prototype demonstration took place today&nbsp;just hours before the start, showcasing the research being done&nbsp;by manufacturers, the ACO&nbsp;and the FIA ​​in this area. Three&nbsp;prototypes took the track: Alpine&#39;s&nbsp;gas hydrogen Alpenglow, the&nbsp;gas hydrogen Ligier Bosch JS2 RH2 and the liquid&nbsp;hydrogen&nbsp;Toyota TR LH2. His excellence FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem arrived at Maison Blanche, the base for the test run, to witness the future of zero CO2 emission racing.</p>

<p>In all three categories, the cars also use Excellium Racing 100, a fully renewable fuel developed by TotalEnergies.</p>

<p>After hotly contested qualifying sessions, no definitive hierarchy has been established. Constructors, teams and drivers are now in another realm, one where pure speed is not enough and every decision can impact a one&#39;s end result.</p>

<p>The 94th 24 Hours of Le Mans will start at 16:00 today, Saturday 13 June 2026. Thirteen, six, twenty-six. Ring a bell? It&rsquo;s the length of the circuit! 13.626 km. Just remember today&rsquo;s date and you&rsquo;ll remember the length of the circuit.</p>

<h2>3:22.564</h2>

<p>A lap time. The new Hypercar lap record set by Dries Vanthoor in the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 &ndash; BMW M Team WRT. He bettered Jack Aitken&rsquo;s 3:22.742, set last year at the wheel of the Cadillac. From now on, to be in pole position, you need to be faster than 3:23. There are former winners in the other teams too: Earl Bamber at Cadillac, Lo&iuml;c Duval at Peugeot, Andr&eacute; Lotterer at Genesis. And then there are the teams whose members have yet to taste victory at Le Mans: Alpine, Aston Martin and BMW. At Le Mans experience is an advantage. But it&rsquo;s no guarantee.</p>

<p>It&rsquo;s been ten years since Porsche won with the #2 919 Hybrid in the hands of Romain Dumas, Marc Lieb and Neel Jani. The most heartbreaking win in the history of the race. <p>This is Romain Dumas&rsquo;s 24th 24 Hours of Le Mans, a record for a driver still racing. The two-time winner (2010 with Audi and 2016 with Porsche) is at the wheel of the #48 fielded by his own team RD Limited. <p>Forty drivers are participating for the first time. There are 23 rookies in LMGT3, 16 in LMP2 and Victor Martins in Hypercar. None will ever forget their first time on the Mulsanne Straight at night.</p>

<p>44 cars are shod with Goodyear tyres this year. The manufacturer is the sole supplier in LMP2 and LMPGT3. Michelin is the Hypercar supplier, chasing a 29th win in a row. The first triumph of the series dates back to 1998 and the 911 GT1 driven by Allan McNish, Laurent A&iuml;ello and St&eacute;phane Ortelli.</p>

<p>47 years, three months and six days separate the youngest from the eldest driver of the 94th edition. The youngest driver, Ian Aguilera (CLX Motorsport #37), is aged 19 years, 2 months and 18 days. This is his first 24 Hours of Le Mans. He is one of several young rookies in the Le Mans new wave. Meanwhile, Canadian driver John Farano (DKR Engineering #3) was born 66 years, five months and 24 days ago. This is his second Le Mans. Separated by age, they are united in the joy of racing in La Sarthe. Le Mans doesn&rsquo;t care how old you are, just how committed.</p>

<p>It is interesting to note that two of these former winners achieved the feat with two different manufacturers: Brendon Hartley (Porsche then Toyota) and Romain Dumas (Audi then Porsche). Romain Dumas could notch up a third win with a third constructor, Oreca, but the LMP2s are not contenders for overall victory. The same goes for Jos&eacute; Mar&iacute;a L&oacute;pez. The former winner with Toyota is with Lexus in LMGT3 this year. However, Andr&eacute; Lotterer (#17 Genesis GMR-001-Hypercar) could claim a fourth win after his Audi exploits. If Earl Bamber wins with Cadillac, it would be his second victory with a different manufacturer (following his victory with Porsche).</p>

<p>Seventy-five years ago, in 1951, a modest German car took the start at Le Mans for the first time. The Porsche 356 SL in the hands of Auguste Veuillet and Edmond Mouche finished 20th overall and first in class. A discrete performance, but the class win was the beginning of a beautiful relationship between Porsche and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Porsche totals 19 victories overall (between 1970 and 2017), an all-time record.</p>

<h2>350.7 kPh</h2>

<p>Jules Gounon is the only driver to have clocked over 350 kph this week. He hit 350.7 kph with the Alpine A424 #35 Alpine Endurance Team. It&rsquo;s one of the highest speeds recorded at Le Mans since 2007, the Audi v Peugeot era. The open-cockpit R10s and the 908s blasted along at 351 kph. Since then, Stoffel Vandoorne was the only driver to break the 350 kph barrier, hitting 350.1 with the BR1 in 2019. Back in 1993, the Porsche 962Cs attained a lofty 360 kph in the practice sessions, and the Jaguar XJR-12 353 kph in the 1990 race.</p>

<h2>1,963</h2>

<p>Nearly 2,000 marshals ensure track safety. There are also 71 Scorpion drivers and 19 first responders, making a total of 2,053 volunteers around the circuit. A whopping 22 nationalities are represented among the 319 marshals from outside France.</p>

2026 24 Hours of Le Mans pre-race number crunching

Ferrari AF Corse, who have had a difficult week leading up to the 24 Hours of Le Mans by their usual high standards, brought some smiles to the Tifosi as the #51 led the #50 Ferrari 499P in Saturday's warm-up session.

<p>Fever and excitement were in the air as the final session before the big race took place. Alessandro Pier Guidi&nbsp; put the #51 Ferrari 499P on top in the last warm-up session before the 94th 24 Hours of Le Mans, which gets underway this afternoon.</p>

<p>It was the final chance to shake the cars down, get the drivers focused, and ensure everything was ready to go. The 15-minute warm-up offered one last opportunity to assess the track before the race. Drivers used the short window to bed in brakes, scrub tyres, check radios, and make sure everything was set for the start at 16:00 local time. The final dress rehearsal for the 94th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans had arrived.</p>

<h2>Ferrari give the fans a little excitement&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Hypercar</p>

<p>Pole-sitter for the 94th edition of the iconic race, the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 rolled out of the pit lane first, with a gaggle of cars jockeying for position behind it, all eager to get out on track for the short, sharp session.</p>

<p>Ferrari were fastest in the shakedown, with Alessandro Pier Guidi stopping the clock at 3:26.540, three-and-a-half tenths quicker than team-mate Miguel Molina in the sister car.</p>

<p>The ever-present #8 Toyota slotted into third ahead of the #36 Alpine, who have been consistently quick in every session this week. Genesis showed promise in fifth, ahead of the #7 Toyota in sixth.</p>

<p>The #15 pole-sitter eventually ended up 12th, while the #12 Cadillac, which shares the front row with the Bavarian marque, completed its shakedown in 15th.</p>

<p>CrowdStrike Racing by APR soared to the top of the warm-up times, with Alex Quinn at the wheel of the #4 entry. TDS Racing&#39;s Mathias Beche came close behind, while IDEC Sport, who will line up on the front row of the LMP2 grid, rounded out the top three. Keeping a watchful eye in fourth were the Hyperpole victors, Forestier Racing by Panis.</p>

<p>TF Sport secured a one-two in LMGT3 for the Corvette brand, as Jonny Edgar went fastest in the iconic yellow #33 Corvette Z06 LMGT3.R. Third on the timesheets was Maxime Martin in the thunderous Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG LMGT3.<br />
