Everything you need to know about the Ferrari exhibition at the 24 Hours Museum

Since 26 November, the 24 Hours Museum has hosted a temporary exhibition dedicated to the history of Ferrari prototypes at Le Mans. Here is how to learn more about the Italian marque's 70-year legacy at the race.

1 – Prototypes according to Ferrari

Since its inception in 1923, the 24 Hours of Le Mans has consistenly served as an innovation laboratory for the biggest car manufacturers in the world, including Ferrari. The Italian marque's often iconic prototypes have left an indelible imprint on fans as well as the history of the race.

2 – The soul of Ferrari: the legendary V12 engine

Enzo Ferrari considered the engine the heart of a car. The marque's engineers in Maranello take particular care with this crucial component, considering it the key to victory. A V12 engine powered every Ferrari until the 1980s and became one of its signatures.

3 – Ferrari's debut with the 166 MM

The 24 Hours returned in 1949 after a 10-year hiatus due to World War II. After suffering severe damage during the conflict, the circuit had to be rebuilt. The 166 MM (in reference to the famous Mille Miglia race) was the first Ferrari to take the start in the 24 Hours. Though Enzo Ferrari did not wish to participate, he could not prevent customers from doing so in his place.

4 – A missed opportunity for the Ferrari 512 M

Entering a veritable armada in the 24 Hours does not necessarily lead to victory. Ferrari learned that lesson with the 512 M after taking on Porsche and its famous 917. Despite the failure, this prototype is inseparable from the Italian manufacturer's epic history at the race.

5 – The unflinching Ferrari 312 PB prototype

Prior to the 499P's participation in the 24 Hours this year, the Ferrari 312 PB remained the last officially fielded prototype in the head class and is remembered as being virtually unstoppable.
