The persistence and resiliency of Floyd Vanwall Racing Team

Floyd Vanwall Racing Team intends to give the major manufacturers a run for their money with the Vandervell 680 Hypercar in the FIA WEC and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans next year. The German-Austrian outfit will continue developing the illustrious British constructor's Hypercar in 2024.

After dedicating the 2021 and 2022 seasons to developing the Vandervell 680, Floyd Vanwall Racing Team fielded the Hypercar in the full 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship under the banner of Austrian team ByKOLLES Racing (LMP1 competitor from 2009 to 2020).

The Vandervell 680 is equipped with a 4.5L Gibson V8 naturally aspirated engine and lacks a hybrid system. Despite a smaller budget than the likes of Ferrari, Porsche, Peugeot or Toyota, and certainly less kilometres under its belt, the Vanwall Vandervell 680 made its debut in competition at the 1000 Miles of Sebring. The Hypercar was then forced to retire at both the 6 Hours of Portimão and TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps after leaving the track.

As such, Colin Kolles' team approached the 24 Hours of Le Mans Centenary with the primary goal of finishing the race. However, in the early morning on Sunday with more than eight hours left, the car came to a standstill due to engine failure. Despite the retirement, the Austrian outfit left Le Mans with a greater understanding of its car and improvements needed for 2024.

Floyd Vanwall Racing Team intends to prove its determination and perseverance with this Hypercar project. Like the Glickenhaus 007, the Vanwall Vandervell 680 could prove to be a serious competitor despite the obstacles, and as with its American counterpart, the Vanwall is a favourite among endurance racing and 24 Hours of Le Mans fans.
